How to Add the Most Recent California Wildfire Information?

This documentation is always evolving.

With Mapcreator, you can create a map with the latest California wildfire data from CAL Fire.  Every 60 minutes, this layer is refreshed with the latest information from CAL Fire, both in the tool and in any interactive output you create.

Where to Find It
The "Wildfires California" live data layer can be found under the "Data overlay" menu. This is located under the fourth icon in the top left menu, where "Live Data" will be at the top.

60-1

After selecting the "Wildfires California" layer, it will automatically appear on your map. In the "Layers" menu, you can control the data displayed. Here, you can enable or hide specific wildfire-related features.

60-2

This layer includes three features:

  1. Evacuation: Sorted in order, warning and advisory. Orders are red, while warnings are yellow. Advisories can be enabled (yellow) in the layers list.

  2. Smoke: Shows the location and density of smoke in the United States. In the layers list, the smoke extent per hour up until 24 hours ahead can be enabled.

  3. Wildfire locations and labels: These show the location and name of each active wildfire. The layers list can be used to enable the inactive wildfire location. Wildfire perimeters show the perimeter of burnt or burning areas. Inactive fire perimeters can be enabled using the layers list.

How to Get This Map Updated
If you'd like to show this project as an interactive map on your website, we recommend downloading the map as an iframe. Interactive maps will then automatically update every hour. Please note that interactive maps are not currently supported in the Next Mapcreator but can be created in the old version of Mapcreator.

What About Static Maps?
The data in the tool is always up to date. If you reopen an existing project, it will automatically reflect the latest data. Simply download the updated map, and you’re ready to share it.
