Layers

This documentation is always evolving.

This article focuses on Mapcreator Next and its features. For details about the previous version of Mapcreator, click here.

Layers, previously known as the Elements list, is your main tool for managing the map. It provides an overview of everything currently displayed on the map.

The list is divided into 3 sections. Let’s explore them:

  • Custom elements includes all items you’ve added to the map yourself, such as labels, icons, polygons, or lines.
  • Overlays shows which of our provided data layers you have activated.
  • Base Map Layers contains everything visible when you start a new project, like roads, oceans, and city names.

Hover over an element to see the available actions. Clicking the eye icon hides it, while clicking the lock icon prevents it from being edited. You can also click the three dots for more options, such as renaming, duplicating, moving, or deleting the element.

Please note that order matters. The first item in the list is displayed on top of all other elements on the map.  This means that the elements you add will automatically be placed on top of your map. However, if you wish to position an added icon, for example, beneath the labels, you can do so by placing it below the non-clickable "Labels" layer.
