Animation with auto-keyframes generation

In this article, you’ll learn how to automate camera movement along a line and how to use this feature to quickly create multiple keyframes.

Activating the auto-keyframe feature

  1. Draw or import a line or route.
  2. Auto-generate the keyframes.

Auto-keyframe settings

The auto-keyframe popup menu allows you to further adjust the camera movement along the line, with settings such as animation duration, zoom, rotation and tilt. The default settings are calculated based on your line data. You can also choose between a rotation mode following the line (default) or switch to a fixed rotation.

The generated auto-keyframes start exactly where the playhead is. If you haven’t previously animated the line, the default animation duration is 10 seconds. If you animate the line first (and keep the default line animation settings), the auto-keyframes will be 2 seconds long.

You can generate more keyframes automatically, everytime you select the line and click auto-keyframe again. As the keyframes will be created where your playhead is, you may even overwrite the previously created keyframes. If your playhead is at the end of the video, new keyframes will be auto-generated there.

PRO-TIPS

Follow invisible line

You can follow the instructions above, but add one final step: delete the line itself. This will not remove the keyframes you’ve created. Use this trick to generate keyframes automatically from A to B instead of creating them manually, even if the line is not part of your video.

Follow growing line

To enhance the follow-path effect, apply a growing animation to the line throughout the keyframes.
