This documentation is always evolving.
With Mapcreator, you can add thermal anomalies data for Europe and Australia. The data is satellite-based and updated every 60 minutes from NASA FIRMS.
Where to find it
To add the layer, navigate to the ‘’Data overlay’’ menu and find ‘’EU and AU hotspots - NASA FIRMS’’ under the ‘’Live Data’’ section.
By default, all hotspots from the past 7 days are shown. However, in the ‘’Layers’’ menu, you can control the visibility of hotspot categories, grouped by the time they were initially detected:
- less than 6 hours ago - dark red;
- 6 until 12 hours ago - red;
- 12 until 24 hours ago - orange;
- 24 hours until 7 days ago - yellow.
Please note that the layer includes all detected thermal anomalies, which may cover not only wildfires but also volcanic activity and other heat sources.
How to get this map updated:
If you’d like to show this project as an interactive map on your website, we recommend you download this map as an iframe. The map will then also automatically update every 60 minutes.
And on a static map?
The data in the tool is always providing the most recent updates. Meaning that if you reopen an existing project in the tool, it will automatically also have the most recent data. Download your map again and you’re ready.
