How do I import a large spreadsheet?

This documentation is always evolving.

This article focuses on Mapcreator Next and its features. For details about the previous version of Mapcreator, click here.

Import your spreadsheets into Mapcreator Next. You can import xlsx, xls and csv formats, even with over 10.000 data points. There are two ways you can import your file(s); The easiest way to do it is to simply drag and drop the file on the map as shown below:

An alternative method is to access the import feature via the top bar. When using this method, you will be able to browse through your computer's library and locate your file on the local drive.

When you add your spreadsheet, the tool will try to automatically detect and match your data. In some cases, you will be asked to double-check and confirm if the relevant address columns got mapped correctly. When you hover over the question mark next to the selected column type, Mapcreator provides a preview of your column’s contents.

Important note: This is also where you can link to additional data such as title, image, video, icon, color etc., As of right now these features are not active yet, but this additional functionality will come later.

In case your spreadsheet does not contain column headers, toggle off the ‘’Does your spreadsheet contain column headers’’ and you can match your data from ‘’Column A’’, ‘’Column B’’, and so on.

Once your spreadsheet has been added to the tool, you can style all items simultaneously. Click on the items once and the ‘’Styling’’ menu will appear. From here, you can change the color, icon, size and rotation. Collision detection and lock position features can also be found here.

In case you want to change the styling of a single element, double-click on the single element. You’ll notice that the blue selector highlight is around the selected element only, instead of the whole group. You can now make changes to this single element.

In ‘’Layers’’, under ‘’Custom Elements’’ you can find your imported spreadsheet. Here you can click the three dots to move your import above or below other map elements.
